How to check your engine oil?

Step 1. Before you begin, make sure that your vehicle is parked on a level surface and let your engine completely cool down (about 20-30 minutes). 

Step 2. Get yourself a clean rag or paper towel.

Step 3. Open the bonnet and locate the dipstick beside the engine (in most models it will be to the left and usually has a yellow/orange handle).

Step 4. Pull out the dipstick and wipe away any oil that is on it with the clean rag/paper towel.

Step 5. Put the dipstick back in, then remove it again to see where the oil level marking is.

How do I know if the oil needs topping up?

  • If the top of the oil mark is well above the min line, the oil level is fine.
  • If the top of the oil mark is near or below the min line, you will need to top up the oil.
