Mini is a brand built on attitude, agility and a dash of cheeky charm. Its John Cooper Works range makes a “look at me” statement. At the RACQ Mobility Centre in Queensland, I got behind the wheel of the NZ models. With a mix of petrol and electric, coupe and SUV, does the new generation still deliver that go-kart magic?

I’d read somewhere that the Kia Carnival was the best of the MPVs available at present and hadn’t given it much thought. Not surprising given I don’t have six kids.  But if I did I might have taken more notice. Because this latest version is quite something. It goes quietly about doing everything competently, in an understated and refined way.

The Skoda Kodiaq is the brand’s most versatile machine, as SUVs tend to be. Named after a big bear, it has AWD to go further, seats for up to seven people and more than enough amenities to keep the modern, mobile family happy. And this top-spec diesel has the means to tow as well, rated to haul up to 2.5
