It has a maximum power output of more than 700bhp and peak torque of more than 1200Nm. The Vee’s 100-degree design gives the engine a low centre of gravity.
The engine is installed in a rear/central transverse position. The compact six-speed electronically controlled sequential gearbox has been specially adapted to withstand massive torque, and is located under the engine.
The powertrain position allows a large-capacity boot, behind the final drive assembly. That design also allows the driving position to be moved forward.
The 908 RC rides on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear, 20-spoke alloy wheels.
Peugeot’s lion symbol influenced many of the styling elements, including the design of the headlights, and the bonnet which was inspired by the head of a big cat. Peugeot says the areas either side of the bonnet create the effect of the cat’s “cheeks” with the bonnet tapering down to a nose, highlighted by the lion emblem.
The LED taillights incorporate a polished aluminium insert that evokes the shape of a powerful claw. The rear profile is dominated by the shape of the rear aerodynamic diffuser.
The body is painted metallic black which gives off bluish reflections.
The cabin has as glazed surface area of three square metres, with the front windscreen stretching back behind the driver’s head, as far as the B/C pillar where the glazed roof begins. Occupants sit in four independent seats.
Functions like radio, MP3 player, satellite navigation, and four-zone air conditioning are controlled using a large touch screen – the Man/Machine Interface (MMI). The MMI is also accessible to the rear passengers, thanks to a multimedia screen positioned on the centre console separating the two rear seats.
The 908 RC is built around a pre-impregnated carbon composite and vacuum-polymerised aluminium honeycomb structure. The rear section is a self-supporting shell incorporating a tubular subframe on which the engine and suspension are mounted.
Front and rear suspensions use a drop link double wishbone design, derived from the 407.
Braking is by monobloc ceramic carbon composite discs.
Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2sw – 255/35 R20 at the front and 285/30 R21 at the rear.
