There are now nine Camry sedan and wagon variants. Five have 2.2-litre four-cylinder engines (available with either manual or automatic transmission); four use the V6 quad-cam which is available only with automatic transmission.

The V6 Touring wagon has new-design 16-inch alloy wheels fitted with 205/60 tyres. The bodywork gets roof rails and a rear spoiler.

Interior features include a six-speaker sound system with integrated Compact Disc player, air-conditioning, cruise control, Touring specification seat trim, and black leather covering for the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake lever.

The wagon has ABS anti-skid braking, driver and passenger front airbags, anti-side intrusion beams, adjustable front seatbelt anchors, child-proof rear door locks and child restraint anchor points.

Changes to the Camry range include more powerful headlights on all variants. They’re multi-reflector type with clear lenses for improved high and low-beam penetration and spread.

Grilles on all models are now a new two-bar design.

Sedan get new bumpers with chrome inserts and larger, re-styled rear indicator and brake lights. The bootlid has been redesigned to suit the new lights. New exterior mirrors reduce wind turbulence and noise.

Alloy wheels are standard on the GX sedan and the Touring wagon. Other models have new-design wheel covers.

Dual front airbags and ABS brakes are standard on the GX sedan and Touring wagon. ABS brakes are an option on all other models. A passenger side airbag is available on 220 GLs.

The two GX models have a leather-wrapped steering wheel and woodgrain-like surrounds on the centre console and instrument panel.

The sound systems have larger, easier-to-use controls, and either four or six speakers according to model specification. Options for GL models include a single or six-disc in-dash Compact Disc unit.

All Camrys now have a variable speed warning system combined with the digital clock. The speed alert, adjustable in 5km/h increments from 40km/h to 130km/h, emits an audible warning and flashes the LCD display when the vehicle’s speed exceeds the pre-set alert speed.

Camrys are now available in a wider range of exterior colours. Oak is an optional interior colour on four-cylinder models.
