February 17, 2007. BMW’s new 3 Series Convertible will cost from $93,900 when it goes on sale in New Zealand this year.

That will buy the 320 six-speed manual. The range tops out with the 335i six-speed automatic at $131,900.

For the first time, the 3 Series Convertible will feature a retractable hardtop roof.

BMW says the three-piece unit can be stowed or raised in 22 seconds and folds to maximise available boot space. Once folded and stowed, the roof can also be raised to allow long items such as golf clubs to be easily loaded, with the roof still down.

The Convertible can also be specified with Sun-Reflective Technology leather upholstery. Special pigments embedded into the leather help reflect infra-red radiation meaning the seats and armrests remain up to 20 degrees cooler than untreated leather..

First model on sale here – in April – is the 325i six-speed manual, at $106,900.

It has an all-new 160kW six-cylinder engine developing 250Nm of torque, and can accelerate to 100km/h sprint in 7.6 seconds. BMW says it has a combined consumption figure of 7.6 litres/100km.

The flagship 335i Convertible will be available with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearboxes, and priced from $127,900 and $131,900.

The 335i has a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre engine which pushes it to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is said to be 9.9 litres/100km. Peak torque of 400Nm comes on-stream from 1300rpm and stays through to 5000rpm.

The entry-level 320i four-cylinder petrol engined Convertible will arrive in May.
