The 173kW Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde has been unveiled, and is set to arrive in New Zealand at the end of 2010.
The 147 replacement bears a striking resemblance to the MiTo, and marks the brand’s 100th birthday.
Giulietta introduces an new “compact” platform for Alfa Romeo, featuring refined suspension, a new-generation steering system, and “a light and rigid structure created from materials such as aluminium and high-strength steels”.
The front of the car features a development of Alfa’s trademark triangular shield, along with a new interpretation of the classic emblem. The front and rear headlights have DRL with LED technology and a daytime function.
The measurements of the new car are 4.35 metres long, 1.46 metres high and 1.80 metres wide, with a wheelbase of 2.63 metres. The boot has room for 350 litres.
The side windows give the Giulietta the appearance of a coupé, as well as the concealed rear door handles.
Inside, the seats are wraparound, and the main commands sit together at the centre of the dashboard – the same design as the commands on the 8C Competizione. The navigation system with pop-up display allows the driver to see maps or to display the mechanical operating parameters set on the Alfa DNA device.
Alfa Romeo’s DNA selector (found on the MiTo) customises the vehicle’s behaviour to suit different road conditions and driving styles. Three set-up functions (Dynamic, Normal and All Weather) are available.
The Giulietta has a range of engines – four turbo (all with Euro 5 type-approval and fitted with the “Start&Stop” system), two petrol versions (120hp and 170hp MultiAir) and two diesels (105hp 1.6 and 170hp 2.0, both second-generation MultiJet engines).
Top of the range is the 235hp 1750 TBi teamed with the exclusive Quadrifoglio Verde interiors.
All the engines are teamed with a manual 6-speed gearbox from the three axle transmission family. Subsequently, the MultiAir and 170hp 2.0 engines will also be teamed with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Full details of the prices and specification of the New Zealand variants of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta will be announced when it goes on sale at the end of 2010.
