This year’s Beach Hop features something very special – the chance to win one of three Mustangs! (pictured). Be there and buy a $5 programme to be in to win.

Thursday really gets things underway with the cruise to Pauanui and the beach party followed by the drive in movie that evening back in Whangamata.

Friday and Saturday are massive days with Friday seeing all the signed up participants (about 850 cars) drive from Whangamata to Onemana (approximately 15km) as part of the Thunder Cruise and then park at the beach reserve for what is a massive rod display and get together. There will plenty of food and music around the reserve to keep the party going.

On Saturday, the Grand Parade takes centre stage through the main street of Whangamata with Rock & Roll dancers, rods and bikes. There is also Rock Idol, the retro beauty pageant, Turners Classic Car auction and the “cracklefest” – when the drag cars will blow your ear drums in the main street every hour or so.

Six time Australian Drag Race Champion Victor Bray and his son Ben (also a champ) will both be there along with Victor’s 57 Chevy Doorslammer.

This year there will also be another three reserves with their own shows going on around Whangamata. Sunday will see the Nostalgia Fair, Top Ten Shoot Out (top cars) and classic car show.
