As well as announcing overnight that it is withdrawing from Formula One at the end of the 2009 season, BMW has confirmed that it will reveal a green sports car.
BMW Development board member Dr Klaus Draeger told AutoTelegraaf the German carmaker will unveil a “sustainable and environmentally compatible” sports car in September, with styling expected to follow the lines of last year’s popular BMW M1 Homage concept (pictured).
Dr Draeger said the sports car will showcase BMW’s EfficientDynamics powertrain technology, as well as a range of sustainable construction methods and environmentally-conscious materials.
BMW is studying the viability of the project, with the ultimate goal to create a two-seater sports car that showcases all of firm’s most sophisticated environmental technology. A limited production run would be timed for release at the end of 2012.
