Broken gearbox sidelined Scott

A broken gearbox caused series front-runner Kayne Scott’s retirement from today’s first NZ V8s race, the second of three heats for the Aussie sedans, at Timaru Raceway.

On lap three, Scott, running in third place, was driving the Fujitsu Ford Falcon into the braking zone at the end of the back straight and went from fourth to second gear, let out the clutch and had no drive.

He got the car to a safe place and parked it.

Team owner Mark Petch says it’s the first mechanical retirement the outfit has had since Scott has been driving for it.

Petch says the NZ V8s class is going to another brand of gearbox next season after a string of problems with the current Richmond Super T10 which runs a PPG gear set.

The T10 is a road car gearbox with competition car internal components. “It’s a fragile gearbox.”

Petch says next year the V8s will run a Jericho gearbox, a full raced unit
