The car has a class 6 bullet resistance rating – the first vehicle ever available to the public with that classification from a mainstream manufacturer.
Thick bulletproof glass, heavy armour plating made from steel panels protect passengers inside, and other special features include heavy-duty suspension, an intercom system to communicate with people outside the vehicle, a hold-up alarm that automatically locks windows and doors, plus sirens and flashing lights. Also standard, run-flat tyres mean the vehicle can travel at around 50mph for up to 100 miles.
The BMW X5’s engine is a 355 horsepower, 4.80-litre V8 which can move from 0 to 100kph in 8.2 seconds.
Not sure if we’ll see this car on the streets on NZ, but we’re sure it’ll be a hit overseas…
