BYD New Zealand has rolled out a support package for owners affected by the extreme weather that has hit the Wellington region over the past 48 hours.

In a social media post, the brand advised customers help is available if their vehicle has been impacted, with assistance covering roadside callouts, towing, and inspections at a BYD service agent.

Owners can also access a loan vehicle for up to five days through CARBN while they sort out an insurance claim.

BYD is directing affected drivers to its roadside assistance line on 0800 293 288, or to their local BYD dealer.

The support comes as a state of emergency remains in place across the Wellington region, after record breaking rainfall triggered flash flooding, slips and evacuations from Sunday night into Monday.

Mayor Andrew Little says 77mm of rain fell in a single hour early Monday morning, with the southern suburbs hit hardest. Fire and Emergency responded to more than 150 incidents across Vogeltown, Mornington, Newtown, Berhampore, Kingston and Island Bay, with images of cars lifted onto fences by floodwater circulating widely.

Red heavy rain warnings remain in force for Wellington and Wairarapa through Tuesday, with further rainfall forecast.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the flooding across Greater Wellington,” BYD New Zealand says in the post. “Please stay safe.”
