Chinese traffic jam enters 10th day

When you’re stuck in traffic after work today, bear in mind the poor Chinese drivers on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou highway.

The jam on the road that forms part of the Beijing-Tibet expressway has been caused by repairs to the route, necessary because of the dramatic increase in traffic on the road recently.

Some have resorted to playing chess and cards, and most parked drivers are having to deal with enterprising locals. A bottle of water usually priced at $0.15, according to the Associated Press, was selling for $1.50. A cup of instant noodles usually available for $0.45 cost more than triple that price.

Although the backlog is apparently beginning to ease at the 10-day mark, the road works are not expected to be completed until mid-September.
