The DS5 will be the third model in Citroen’s new range of cars, preceded by a smaller DS3 and DS4.

Citroen’s first diesel-electric hybrid is still in the early stages of development, but is estimating a drop of up to 35% in CO2 emissions compared to a similar sized petrol car, and considerable fuel savings.

The Cotroen DS5’s Hymotion4 system features AWD capability, with the diesel drivetrain up front, where it can drive the front wheels, and the electric motor at the rear, where it drives the rear wheels. Therefore, transfer cases, driveshafts and differentials are no longer needed.
