Evo joins the chase

That statement of the obvious is why police in South Yorkshire, England, have added the Evo X to their Road Crime Unit which specialises in chasing drug dealers and car thieves.

The X joins Evo 8s and 9s on the fleet. “The Evo X was (chosen) because of its excellent pursuit capabilities and the fact that so much time and effort has been put into maximising performance whilst minimising the risk of accidents,” says Yorkshire police’s Inspector Slack.

Police will use the X and the other Evos on the same missions and at the same time, “creating such a strong visual impact that the vehicle being pursued will often simply give up the chase and pull over, knowing they won’t be able to out-run (them).”

Yorkshire police deploy their Evos in packs of three which Slack says is often enough of a deterrent that high-speed chases are avoided.
