Michael Inwood and his family farm 800-hectares near Bathurst according to an environmentally-sustainable management plan.
Inwood set to work on his formerly diesel-powered Triton, and it is now a zero-emissions all-purpose farm vehicle.
Powered by a 150kW electric motor instead of the standard 3.2 litre turbodiesel, it is charged using renewable energy (most of it solar). The Triton EV’s 45 lithium-ion batteries supply it with enough power to travel 80km at 100kph.
Inwood has also equipped his ’sunpower’ ute to perform varied roles – it can even be hooked up to an Agroplow disc seeder.
The Triton EV is a five-speed manual with dual-range 4WD system, and has 500Nm of torque on tap.
Despite the AU$40, 000 conversion and the relatively limited range, the Triton EV demonstrates that electric power isn’t just something for city-bound commuters.
