“When you start happily scraping paint off the mirrors you know you’re coming right.”
That’s the word from Angus Fogg after qualifying on the outside of the front row for tomorrow’s opening NZ V8s races at the Hamilton 400 race meeting.
Fogg starts outside reigning champion and fellow Ford Falcon racer John McIntyre.
He had a spin during the session. “The rear (tyres) had gone away, and on a bump I just got wide.”
Fogg says there’s crowning on the road in that corner and the rear end of the car loses traction .
“Other than that it’s been alright. It would be better to start on the inside (of the front row), but what can you do?
“I’ve got (David) Besnard and (Paul) Radisich starting right behind me and they don’t give anything away. It could be an interesting first corner.”
Fogg says that at the moment he “quite likes” the Hamilton track.
“It’s very challenging, a lot more challenging than Wellington ever was, but the car I’ve got now is a lot heavier and faster than anything I raced at Wellington.
“(The Hamilton track) is a challenge and very daunting, but the more laps you do, the more you get into the rhythm.”
