Angus Fogg says a few minor tweaks to his Caltex Havoline NZ V8s Ford Falcon were the key to his first pole position in “quite a long time.”
Fogg is on pole for this afternoon’s first race at Manfeild by 0.180 of a second from Kayne Scott’s Fujitsu Ford Falcon.
Paul Manuell is third in the Orix Holden Commodore, 0.122 of a second behind Scott.
Fogg says he had been struggling for speed before the final qualifying session that set the grid.
“It’s amazing what two or three tiny little things can do (to get the car up to speed).
“There were silly things that shouldn’t have been wrong, and now the car is showing its true speed.”
Fogg lapped in 1m 12.388s.
He says that hopefully in the race “we can run away and hide, but who knows what the weather is going to do.
“I’m quietly confident. I need to get a good clean start and I have the same objective to do what I did here last year and (run away).”
The rest of the top 10, in qualifying order, is: John McIntyre (Falcon); Clark Proctor (Falcon); Mark Pedersen (Falcon); Andy Booth (Commodore); Paul Radisich (Falcon); Luke Youlden (Falcon), and John Penny (Falcon).
