Angus Fogg took a narrow victory in Heat 2 of the NZ V8s Championship round at Manfeild today, holding off a charging John McIntyre.
It should have been a comfortable win – if there is such a thing in a class as competitive as this – because in the opening laps, Fogg drove his Caltex Havoline Ford Falcon into a massive lead.
But then with five laps to go, the race went under yellow, bunching the field and setting up a four-lap sprint to the flag.
Fogg won the indian-file restart, but McIntyre hammered away at him over the four laps, but couldn’t find a way to take then BP Ultimate Falcon into the lead.
Paul Manuell reprised his third placing from Saturday with the final podium placing in the Orix Holden Commodore.
Kayne Scott finished fourth in the Fujitsu Falcon, ahead of Dean Perkins’ GT Radials Ford and Andy Booth’s Tasman Motorsport Commodore.
Outside front row starter, Scott, got shuffled back at the start by Manuell and Mark Pedersen (United Video Falcon).
McIntyre had also been shuffled back to sixth after starting fourth, but worked his way past Clark Proctor’s Metalman Ford.
He caught and passed Scott on lap three and was past Manuell and into second by lap seven.
