Things look to be heating up in the small affordable electric car space with Geely NZ considering adding the EX2 to the local line up in 2026. The model has been confirmed for Australia, where it is due to arrive there in the second half of 2026. The compact EV will become Geely’s entry point into the city car segment, signalling a broader push to make electric mobility more accessible.
Jordan Haines, Brand Manager, Geely New Zealand told us “the EX2 is a model we are considering as part of our product line-up for next year.” With the Dongfeng Box already here and the BYD Atto 1 not far away, Geely will be keen to have an offering in this space too.
The EX2 is built on Geely’s Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, the same modular underpinnings used by the larger Geely EX5 EV and the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid.
Positioned as a city-focused hatchback, the EX2 is “designed to lift the daily urban commute with a playful exterior and a tech-rich interior, paired with a comfortable yet agile driving experience”. It is a compact hatch measuring 4135mm long, 1805mm wide and 1580mm high, with a 2650mm wheelbase. Geely says the cabin features more than 30 storage compartments, including a front boot under the bonnet.
Styling is said to be aimed ‘squarely at urban buyers’, with a distinctive ‘smile face’ front design, clean body surfacing and a palette of pastel exterior colour options to give the EX2 ‘a youthful, approachable look’.
In its home market, the EX2 is known as the Xingyuan, which translates to “Star Wish”, and it has already proven to be a sales success. The model is currently China’s overall best-selling vehicle for 2025, with more than 400,000 units sold in the 12 months since its launch. Sales peaked at around 50,000 units in September 2025 alone.
Geely has yet to confirm full specifications, driving range or pricing for the EX2 in local markets, with more details expected closer to its 2026 launch window.
