Globe-trotting Renault/Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn, will become chairman of Renault when Louis Schweitzer steps down at Renault’s annual meeting on May 6, 2009.

Ghosn will become Renault’s chairman and CEO and chairman of the board of directors.

He oversaw the changes at Nissan that saw the ailing Japanese carmaker fight back to profitability.

Earlier in the week Ghosn was named as the new boss of the European car manufacturers’ association.
