Winkelmann said the company will spend around NZ$74 million between now and 2015, in an effort to reduce emissions in both its vehicles and its production facilities.
Hybrid technology is expected to play a role in this, although Winkelmann acknowledges that all-electric cars have little interest for Lamborghini.
Decreasing vehicle mass, reducing mechanical friction and boosting combustion efficiency of the full vehicle line-up are all part of the company’s plans to achieve a 35 per cent reduction in emissions.
Lamborghini has cut tailpipe emissions by 18 per cent with the recent Gallardo LP560-4, by refining the existing V10 powerplant.
Utilising a small electric motor paired with a conventional petrol engine, Lamborghini’s hybrid supercar would likely help the company tackle its goal of cutting emissions by 35 per cent.
