Korean carmaker, Hyundai, is tipped to enter the world microcar market next year with a vehicle to rival Toyota’s iQ.

Hyundai is understood to have told its research department to develop a no-frills microcar to meet the growing trend to smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. It would be Hyundai’s first really small car since the Atoz (pictured).

Hyundai is reportedly considering giving the car a single mechanical and trim spec but offering optional equipment packs that customers can add on.

It’s also expected to debut two MPVs. The first, based on the i30 is set to arrive in 2010 with an i20-based wagon due in 2011.
