Hyundai New Zealand will sell light, medium and heavy trucks, starting in 2010 with the medium sized HD65 which was unveiled at headquarters last week in both its single cab and super cab versions.

Hyundai celebrated the launch with a visit from Vice Chairman Han Young Choi, the highest ranked Hyundai Motor Company executive ever to come to New Zealand.

Tom Ruddenklau, National Sales Manager Hyundai New Zealand says, “The launch of Hyundai Trucks comes at a time of growth for the company both nationally and globally and is the next logical step for us as we continue to expand and move towards becoming the number one automotive brand in New Zealand.”

The HD65 comes with three gross vehicle weights – 6.5, 7.2 and 7.8 metric tonnes. There are three cab choices, two vehicle widths and long or short wheelbase.

To complete the line up Hyundai will also offer a light 4.49 tonne version that can be driven by car licence holders.

Initially the HD65 will be available through up to three dealers. While these dealers are not yet selected, they are anticipated to be based in Auckland, Palmerston North and Christchurch. This will potentially extend to five dealers and four service agents by 2012.

Ruddenklau finished by saying; “Some people may have been surprised by the news that an automotive company is launching a truck range at this time considering the challenging year the industry has had,  and yet that is just one of the surprises we have up our sleeve for 2010.”
