Hyundai has mated a 1.6-litre GDI engine (Gasonline Direct Injection) and a six-speed automatic transmission in the compact sedan, reportedly boosting power output and improving fuel economy while lowering emissions.

The new GDI powertrain features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, a Variable Induction System and anti-friction coatings.

At the Busan show, Hyundai revealed the new car will deliver a raft of advanced features not found on other compact segment competitors, including HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps, LED rear combination lamps, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a colour TFT LCD information display nestled in the instrument cluster.

The MD will be launched in Korea later this year and has been announced for Australia in 2011, so should be making its way to our shores too.
