The 2012 Veloster hatchback, which will go on sale overseas later this year, features a single door on the driver’s side, but two doors on the passenger side, for easier access to the back seats.

There will be a 1.6-litre petrol engine available initially, with GDI (gasoline direct injection) technolly to lower emissions.

A manual or dual-clutch transmissions, each with six speeds, will be offered. With the manual gearbox, the engine will generate 138hp and 123lb-ft of pulling power, but this drops to 130hp and 117lb-ft with the dual-clutch gearbox specified.

Exterior features include 17-inch alloys, glass hatch, dual centred chrome exhaust tips, and black lower fascia.

Inside you’ll find a push-button starter and plenty of metallic accents.

Standard safety features include vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, six airbags, ABS and brake assists, and electronic brake-force distribution.

The Veloster will be offered with a range of high-tech options, such as a premium multi-media system with internet radio and system to support video games (when in Park), plus LED lighting and Eco Coach, which encourages economic driving.
