The findings, from the Auto Express 2016 Driver Power Survey, put the Grand Cherokee in ninth position, out of more than 150 different models sold in the UK, with a score of 91.99 per cent.

The survey also shows how Jeep as a brand is now ranked as 11th most popular – up from last year’s 26th – thereby registering the best improvement. Comfort, practicality, technology and ease of driving are all highly rated by UK Jeep owners in the survey.

Among the Grand Cherokee’s highlights for ownership are its performance, ride quality, practicality and in-car technology, according to the survey.

The “big American off-roader continues to score well in most categories” says the survey. Owners “rate the Grand Cherokee fun and comfortable to drive.”

“Practicality matters for most SUV owners, and the car scored well here due to its large boot and roomy interior,” it concludes.

In New Zealand the Jeep range opens with the classic Jeep Wrangler available for a limited time at $44,990 plus on road costs, while the new Jeep Renegade is priced from $49,990 plus on road costs.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee that is so impressing UK owners is available in New Zealand with a choice of 210 kW V6, 184 kW V6 Turbo Diesel and two V8 engines with 259 kW and 344 kW as well as four trim levels, topped by the exceptional performance provided by the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Prices for the Jeep Grand Cherokee open at $69,990 plus on road costs for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4×2.
