Jeremy Clarkson has been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer. The star revealed the diagnosis during an episode of his TV show Clarkson’s Farm.
“I’ve got cancer,” he said.
“But it’s really early, so the treatment’ll be … you know,” he said, hinting at how an early diagnosis can lead to a positive result.
While Clarkson initially joked about not letting anyone know about where the cancer was located, he then confirmed part of his prostate had been removed during treatment.
Despite Clarkson’s positive outlook on the situation, the series ends with the star being rushed to hospital over complications.
“Some of the treatment has gone awry, let’s say. I’m going to be here for a little while,” he said.
“If this is all successful, I’ll see you for season six. And if it isn’t, I won’t.”
Clarkson’s situation is a good reminder to talk about the most commonly diagnosed cancer in New Zealand (not including skin cancers).
Every year, more than 4,000 New Zealanders are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and over 700 die.
Men are more likely to develop prostate cancer as they get older. It is also more common in men who have a father or brother with prostate cancer.
