The new Rio will be longer and wider, as well as sit lower, than the current model, offering more room inside and a sleeker appearance. (Looks a little like the Scirocco to me?)

According to Kia, the new look of the Rio is meant to “inject emotional appeal into the B-segment” and appeal to the 25 to 49 demographic.

Design chief Peter Schreyer describes the Rio as being “sporty and elegant”. It has a sleek, almost coupe-like profile, with a narrow sculpted glasshouse and detailing in the side doors, plus sweeping LEDE lights and a wide air intake up front.

Kia hasn’t offered up any details yet on what’s under the hood, but the likely candidates include the 1.8-litre producing 148hp (110 kW) and 131 lb-ft (177 Nm) of torque, likely mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.

Let’s see what comes out in March…
