Lamborghini will stop building cars for two weeks as the global market for high-end sports cars falters.

Lamborghini says it has reached agreement for the closure with Italian motor industry unions.

Lamborghini boss, Stephan Winkelmann, says the carmaker can’t sustain the series of record sales and profits increases of recent years – last year was another record – as the world economy declines.

But Winkelmann says Lamborghini won’t cut back on model and technology development and will continue its plans to expand globally. “We are committed to introducing one new product to the market each year.”
