A prototype of the two-seat Lexus LFA is now on display at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.
The LFA is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.8-litre V10 engine. Thanks to its aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy and titanium alloy construction, it is lighter than a normal V8 engine.
Maximum power is reportedly 412kW (560hp) at 8700rpm, while peak torque is 480Nm at 6800rpm.
All of this power goes to the rear wheels via a six-speed ASG transmission.
A 0-100kmh time of 3.7 seconds is claimed, while top speed is 325kmh.
With 65% pf its body being carbon fibre, the Lexus LFA has a relatively low weight of 1480kg, and is reasonably compact all over – legth 4.51m, width 1.9m and heiht 1.22m
It features a double wishbone front suspension and a multilink system at the rear. Brakes are carbon ceramic.
The LFA gets it aurodynamic qualities via a flat underbody, a rear diffuser and a speed-controlled rear wing.
Sales of the LFA, which is set to go into production next year, will be limited to 500 worldwide, the company said, describing it as “ultra-responsive and extremely stable even when taken to the edge”.
“The LFA is a supercar, the driveability of which was refined on the Nurburgring circuit in Germany,” said Toyota Motor president Akio Toyoda on Wednesday.
