The crew of Masahiko Kageyama, Hiroaki Ishiura, Kazuya Oshima and Takuto Iguchi finished 14th overall in what is considered to be the toughest race for production based cars in the world.
The LFA Code X is a 5.3l V8 powered limited edition of the Lexus flagship performance car. Its crew completed 147 laps of the “Green Hell” in the 24 hours to win the SP-Pro class. The 13 cars in front of the Lexus were all “supercars” from European manufacturers.
The race used a combination of the 5km Grand Prix track and what is known as the “North circuit” – the 21km and 147 corners snaking through the Eiffel mountains that was originally built during the 1930s Depression.
Only 102 of the 150 starters were classified finishers of the event, which included periods of racing in the rain as well as through the night.
A Lexus IS F crewed by Helmut Bauman, Horst Bauman, Lorenz Frey and Freddy Barth finished runner-up in the SP8 class, one lap behind the winner.
And a 2l turbocharged Lexus RC with Kumi Sato, Takayuki Kinoshita, Naoya Gamo and Takamitsu Matsui was fourth in the SP3T class having completed 122 laps, the same as the second and third placed cars in the class.
Lexus has a proud history of success at the Nurburgring 24 Hours race, the latest victory being the sixth time since 2012 that it has won a class at the event.
