February 21, 2007. BMW’s fastest ever ragtop, the new 373kW, 5.0-litre V10-powered BMW M6 Convertible, has gone on sale in New Zealand, with prices starting at $270,900. The car is available only by order, and individual cars will be tailored to customers’ specifications.
The V10 develops 520 Nm of peak torque at 6100rpm, and the engine will rev out to a red line of 8250rpm.
The M6 Convertible will accelerate to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds and covers the standing kilometre in 22.9 seconds.
Top speed is limited to 250km/h, but BMW says the M6 convertible could easily reach 320km/h.
The car drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) with Drivelogic.
Drivelogic offers the driver a choice of 11 different gear change options – five in auto mode and six in manual mode – each offering a different speed of gearshift.
On its fastest setting, it can change gears in 50 milliseconds – much faster than could be achieved by an experienced driver using a conventional manual gearbox.
MDrive, activated by steering wheel mounted button, switches the M6 between regular driving mode and a programmable attack mode that can deploy the most aggressive throttle response, all 373kW, Sport suspension settings, DSC off or switched to its most dynamic mode, as well as the most aggressive gearchange shift programme for the Drivelogic system. MDrive also deploys the M mode for the Head-Up Display.
The softtop hood raises or lowers in 25 seconds, at speeds of up to 30km/h.
