The new automatic Maserati super coupe, the GranTurismo S automatic, is powered by 323kW 4.7-litre V8 that pumps out 490Nm of torque, but with a new version of the six speed ZF gearbox.

Maserati says the gearbox has not only been developed to handle the power of the new engine, but has also been provided with features designed to match the driving requirements of this new model. For example, kick down in manual mode has been eliminated to more accurately mimic the characteristics of driving a manual car.

The Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic features some marked stylistic differences, such as a new shape in the new under-door side-skirts, 20” wheel rims with a new “Trident” design.

Maserati says the GranTurismo has been the fastest selling Maserati of all time, including in Australia and New Zealand.

Its Australian and New Zealand launch in 2007 enabled Maserati to enter 2008 with an order book larger than the brand’s entire 2007 sales and, despite the downturn in the rest of the car market, it enabled Maserati to end 2008 as the first exotic brand in Australia to break the 200 annual sales barrier.

New Zealand pricing and specifications for the new GranTurismo S Automatic will be announced when it goes on sale in early 2010.
