“Maserati’s joint venture with Ermenegildo Zegna is unlike any joint venture that has gone before it,” says Glen Sealey, chief operating officer of Maserati Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
“This is not a marketing exercise where a brand name from outside the car industry is attached to a limited edition model or version. Ermenegildo Zegna has engineered a unique and new contribution to what the industry is able to offer customers, one that is exclusive to Maserati.
“Ermenegildo Zegna has taken silk, a natural material that is renowned for its soft and delicate nature, and developed it into a new form of silk that is suitable for car upholstery with its requirements for durability without losing any of silk’s intrinsic qualities. This is little short of remarkable a feat of fabric engineering and on a par with the mechanical and design engineering that has gone into the Ghibli and Quattroporte cars into which it is tailored,” says Mr Sealey.
The 100 per cent natural Mulberry silk used by Ermenegildo Zegna to produce the new interior option for the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte has been selected specifically for this new role. It has been processed in a new manner developed by Ermenegildo Zegna to enhance its strength and durability while retaining the intrinsic qualities of silk that have made it such a sort-after fabric for centuries. This process is required because the Ermenegildo Zegna silk is not just an adornment to the interior of Ghibli and Quattroporte.
To provide the full luxury and exclusivity of the silk interior, it is used in places such as the seats and door panels which it has to offer the same levels of durability, colour-fastness and long service life of normal automotive upholsteries.
This is where the unique skill and fabric engineering of Ermenegildo Zegna have been used to make what would otherwise be seen as a dichotomy, a fabric renowned for its soft, delicate nature, used in which durability and long service life are required, a proven new choice for a car interior.
The Ermenegildo Zegna interior exclusively for Maserati combine Poltrona Frau’s Pelle Frau Leather with 100% natural fibre Zegna Mulberry Silk inserts on the seats, door panels, roof lining, sunshades and ceiling light fixture. Available in three colour variants for the interiors of the Ghibli, this exclusive interior is the most exquisite of all Maserati personalised interiors.
The interior is designed around Maserati’s two-colour, two-material concept, with Poltrona Frau’s unique handcrafted Pelle Frau® leather combined with Ermenegildo Zegna 100% natural fibre Mulberry silk inserts, to provide a distinctive, unique and elegant persona.
The Ermenegildo Zegna silk, an inherently sophisticated material, is further embellished by the hand-stitched macro-chevron then enhanced by an alternating rib embroidery pattern and a unique silk Jersey on the door panels.
With the seats, the extra fine grain Poltrona Frau leather with contrasting, light grey stitching, is matched to a central silk insert with a micro-chevron weave of vertical braids on the central seat and backrest area. The central roll of silk, with leather bolsters on the sides, features a special macro-chevron weave adding to its three-dimensional feel and technical look.
On the door panels, the central parts are covered with Zegna silk Jersey and embellished by a diagonal roll pattern, with ‘ton-sur-ton’ ornate stitching and alternating rib embroideries. The same fabric is used to cover the car’s roof lining and sunshades, the latter carrying grosgrain “Ermenegildo Zegna Exclusively for Maserati” brand labels on the inside. The sophisticated, luxury finish of the car interior is also expressed by the headrests, featuring an embroidered Trident emblem and contrasting stitching.
Pricing for the Ermenegildo Zegna silk interior depends on the range of other options and combination included in any particular package and ranges depending model and option choices within and around it with pricing from $11,000 to $22,000.
