Mazda sets July sales record

Mazda’s New Zealand new vehicle sales continue to be on a roll, with the brand having its strongest July on record.

Mazda managing director, Andrew Clearwater, says July saw the industry fall by 15.7 percent from July last year in the largest decrease in vehicle sales since the 1990s.

Mazda sales are now 14.3 percent above last year, compared with the industry YTD increase of 1.2 percent.

“Even though economic conditions are tight, we still managed to have a very strong July with sales of 577 units and fourth position overall.

“Our market share of 7.7 percent is also [Mazda’s] best July market share to date.”

The Mazda 6 continues to lead the four-cylinder mid-sized segment and the Mazda 3 retains second position in the small car segment.

“This is a particularly pleasing result for the Mazda 3, which is in the final year of its product cycle,” says Clearwater.

“We’re in the fortunate position of having a great range of vehicles that are really striking a chord [with buyers]. We look forward to maintaining the momentum through the remainder of the year.”
