Australia will be the first country to see right-hand drive AWD Impreza, following the debut of left-hand drive models at New York International Auto Show in April.

Both hatch and sedan models will be displayed.

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “We are honoured that Fuji Heavy Industries has chosen Australia to be the first market outside North America to see new Impreza ‘in the metal’.

“It has had a fantastic reception and we’re really excited about showing it to the Australian public.

“The style, space, economy and technology of this car will take its customer base in Australia to a whole new level.

“Current Impreza is the best-selling version of Subaru’s small car to date and we are confident that this fourth generation will bring even greater success.”

Impreza is one of several surprises that Subaru has planned for the show, with other announcements to follow in the weeks leading up to the opening.

The new Subaru Impreza features Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a horizontally opposed;Boxer engine, standard Vehicle Dynamics Control electronic stability program, and a five-star rating for occupant safety from the independent Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

The NZ launch date for new Impreza has yet to be announced.
