Instead of the 571hp 6.3-litre V8 that you get in the normal SLS, four wheel-mounted electric motors will provide 525hp and 880Nm to the wheels. Torque of the electric model tops out at 650lb-ft.

Racing to 0-100kph will reportedly take four seconds, 0.2 off the V8.

A gearbox on each axle divides the power between each wheel, and the liquid-cooled 48kw/h lithium ion batteries run down the car’s centre line so as not to compromise the 48-52 weight distribution. The batteries are charged by plugging them into the mains.

“With the SLS AMG with electric drive, we wanted to redefine the super sports car. For us, it is not just about responsibility. We attach just as much importance to excitement and classic AMG performance,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
