The Mini Roadster is the soft-top variant of the Coupe introduced earlier this year, and is based on the current Mini hatchback, measuring 3734mm long, 1683mm wide and 1390mm tall.
Differences include a more steeply raked windshield, a 20mm lower height, and the boot has doubled in capacity to 240 litres.
Mini promises a more “go-kart feeling” from the Roadster, thanks to the lower center of gravity, bespoke chassis set-up, improved rigidity and optimised aerodynamic properties.
The Roadster will be available with a choice of four petrol and diesel engines from launch. The model line-up includes the Mini Cooper Roadster (90 kW/122 hp), the Mini Cooper SD Roadster (105 kW/143 hp) and Mini Cooper S Roadster (135 kW/184 hp), up to the sharpest performer of all, the 155 kW/211 hp Mini John Cooper Works Roadster.
Transmission choices include a standard 6-speed manual gearbox for all models and a 6-speed automatic for all variants aside from the JCW.
Technology includes Electric Power Steering and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), speedsensitive steering assistance, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, Park Distance Control, height-adjustable seats and an audio system with MP3-compatible CD player and AUX IN connection.
Safety features such as front and head-thorax airbags, a rigid windscreen frame and polished stainless steel roll-over bars fixed to the body join forces in the name of occupant protection.
