Greg Murphy got the grandstands roaring at Hamilton this afternoon as he leapfrogged to the top of the timesheets in the top-20 qualifying session.
Almost instantaneously the session was stopped after Jamie Whincup, who had been fastest in session one, was tapped by Todd Kelly as Kelly resumed the track after running on to a ripple strip.
As Kelly drove back on to the track, he collected the rear of Whincup’s Vodafone Ford Falcon, sending it into the concrete barrier.
When the session was stopped, Rick Kelly (Todd’s brother) was second, ahead of Garth Tander, James Courtney and Kiwi Fabian Coulthard who has achieved his ambition of getting into the top-10 shootout.
Shane Van Gisbergen finished just outside the top 10 after being in it for much of session two.
The session was declared, which meant Shane Van Gisbergen missed out on a chance of getting back into the top 10 after being bumped seconds before Whincup crashed..
