New Fiesta hits spot with British buyers

New cars sales in Britain are 30 percent down on a year ago, but Fiesta sales were up by 28.3 percent in January. 

Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ figures, show Ford of Britain doing strong business, with the Ka, Fiesta, Focus and Galaxy all leading their segments, and the new Kuga crossover (capable of bettering 6.4 litres/100km) being the best-selling compact 4×4 for four consecutive months.

Ford took an 18.7 percent share of January’s new car market in Britain – a 2.4 point rise on 2008.

But though Ford accounted for almost one in five sales, its British new car registrations fell by 27 percent to 24,276 last month.
