The new eco engines have been designed for either transverse (front wheel drive unibody) or longitudinal (rear wheel drive) applications.
“We already have one of these eco diesel engines in the new Korando which uses only 5.5 litres per 100km. With the significant rise in the price of petrol in New Zealand recently, this option is becoming particularly attractive for motorists,” says General Manager of SsangYong NZ Deon Cooper.
The three new SsangYong diesel engines meet Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards and can be can be used in SUVs and premium passenger cars, as well as hybrid models.
The 2.0 litre Active Diesel engine has been developed to enhance torque at low-mid engine speeds rather than focussing exclusively on high power. Torque has been improved by 20%, with a wide, flat torque curve.
The 2.0 litre Green Diesel has been designed for superior fuel efficiency. A reduction in friction loss has been achieved by optimising design, allowing for a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions. NVH and vehicle dependability have been improved through engineering of the balance shaft, isolation damper and multiple injection.
The last engine – the 2.2 litre 2-stage turbocharger diesel – features a small turbocharger for low-medium speeds and a large turbocharger for high speed, a low compression ratio and a 200bar common rail system. Peak torque is 500Nm.
Cooper says the new fuel efficient Korando model is the future face of SsangYong as it is economic and has style.
