Though the new Lambo remains under wraps, rumours are swirling that it will be called Aventador, after the Italiam super-car maker recently registered the name.
The new engine announcement may come as a surprise for some, since earlier this year the company announced that it would focus on handling and lightweight construction rather than power.
But we won’t scoff at the new beast – a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, with a total output of 515kW at 8250 rpm and 690Nm of torque available at 5500 rpm. It is 30kW more powerful than the Murcielago LP 670-4.
The new V12 is also compact and lightweight – measuring 665mm tall, 848mm wide and 784mm in length. It has a bore diameter of 95mm and a cylinder stroke of 76.5mm. The engine weighs a total of 234kg.
Coupled to the new engine will be a newly developed seven-speed automated manual transmission dubbed Lamborghini ISR, or Independent Shifting Rod.
Lamborghini says the new system allows gear shifts to happen “virtually in parallel”, with the second shifting rod engaging the next gear even as the first is disengaging.
