Quoting un-named sources the reports say the RX-7 project – a rear-wheel drive mid/low-mounted rotary-engined coupe – is still very much alive, despite the recession.
The same sources were reported as saying there will also be a successor to the current RX-8 four-door rotary coupe (pictuired).
A newly-developed, larger capacity twin-rotary motor is tipped to deliver more than 200kW in the RX-7 but use at least 20 percent less fuel than the current engine. Also helping the fuel economy will be lighweight bodywork.
The gearbox is tipped to be a twin-clutch automated manual six-speeder.
