Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of Used Vehicles, Spencer Morris says, “iQ is an ideal vehicle for city dwellers who want a vehicle that makes a minimal impact on the environment. It will also appeal to fleet buyers and business operators seeking a funky town runabout or mobile billboard,”

With a turning circle of 3.9 metres, the iQ is manoeuvrable and easy to park. It is designed to seat three adults plus either a child or 168 litres of luggage, with one rear seat folded.

And, to make the interior more spacious, engineers have reconsidered the location of various components as well as redesigning some key parts to suit a smaller size.

For example, the air conditioning unit is 20 per cent smaller, the fuel tank is flat under the floor, the differential is positioned in front of the transmission, and the seat backs are now slimmer.

Powered by a 1.0 litre three cylinder 1KR-FE engine with CVT five-speed automatic transmission, iQ delivers 50kW of power at 6000rpm and 98Nm of torque at 4800rpm.

iQ is economical, sipping 4.3 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres and emitting 100 grams of CO² when tested under the Japanese 10/15 test cycle.

Safety has not been compromised despite its small size – iQ has been awarded a five star Euro NCAP rating.

The safety package includes an Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, plus nine airbags including the world’s first rear seat centre airbag.

iQ is available in two grades – the standard G grade, and a top of the range G Leather grade including leather seating and alloy wheels. Options that can be added to further personalise the iQ include satellite navigation and alloy wheels.

The Signature Class Toyota iQ has an RSP of $26,990 until the end of December 2009. Get to your local dealer to learn more, or see a range of Toyota iQ for sale here.
