The Touareg is available in two spec levels – the V6 TDI producing 176kW, and the V8 TDI with 250kW. Joining them in April is the new V6 TDI that will put out 150kW.
All new models are 200kg lighter than the previous models, and sport 8-speed tiptronic transmissions.
The V6 TDI models feature Volkswagen’s BlueMotion technologies, such as a start-stop system, a regenerative braking system and low friction tyres. Along with the reduced weight and improved aerodynamics (they are built lower to the ground), fuel burn and CO² emissions have been reduced to a reported 195kg/km.
Standard on the V8 TDI, the tailgate can be opened and closed by a RF remote control unit integrated in the car key and the largest panoramic sunroof of all SUVs provides for light even on overcast days.
The new Touareg’s optional “Area View? camera system which consists of four cameras positioned around the exterior of the vehicle mean you get a clear aerial view of your vehicle.
Touareg?s optional “Terrain-Style” package reflects its off-road skills with chrome plated exhaust tips, underride guard and side skirts. “Chrome & Style” is a more dressy option – two chrome-plated rectangular tailpipes, and lower bumpers and sills painted to match the body colour.
The V6 TDI 150kW produces 400Nm of torque and is equipped with “4MOTION” permanent four-wheel drive with Torsen gearbox. Wheels as standard are 17” Atacama alloys and a premium mobile phone with Bluetooth (rSAP profile, Hands Free Profile, A2DP profile) including voice control lets you keep in touch. Park distance control (front and rear) make tight spaces about town a breeze and cricket leather with manual front seat adjustment ensure driver comfort.
The V6 TDI 176kW produces 550Nm of torque and is equipped with 18” Karakum alloys as standard. Privacy glass, Vienna leather upholstery with comfort front seats are highlights.
The V8 TDI 250kW produces 800Nm of torque and is equipped with Bi-xenon headlights with cornering light and LED daytime running lights. 19” Everest alloys and Nappa leather with electric front seat adjustment and memory distinguish this more premium model. Also as standard are RNS 510 satellite navigation with reversing camera, keyless entry and start and sports package (brushed aluminium dash and centre console inserts, pedals, scuff plates and dark roof lining).
Stay tuned for our road test of the new Volkswagen Touareg…
