The sixth-generation Volkswagen Jetta is longer than its predecessor – its wheelbase an extra 7cm and body boosted by 9cm.
Volkswagen says the bigger proportions equal more legroom inside and a sportier appearance on the outside.
The front fascia has been redesigned, with a short grille and narrow headlights.
The Jetta is now a totally independent model, no longer sharing body parts with the VW Golf as it had in the past.
Euro spec engines include two new turbodiesels – a 1.6 litre TDI BlueMotion and 2.0 litre TDI. Also new to the range are the 1.2 litre TSI and 1.4 litre TSI. Initially the car will be offered with a 1.4 litre TSI and 2.0 litre TSI.
Both 1.4 litre models may be mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission, while the 1.6 and 2.0 litre TDI, and 2.0 litre TSI can be hooked up to a six-speed DSG. A manual transmission comes standard.
Inside the new Jetta the steering wheel has optional multifunction keys, and the rear bench seatback is split 40/60 and folds, increasing the car’s versatility.
Up to six airbags (two front airbags, two side airbags in front, two window airbags in the area of the front side windows) are also part of the equipment package.
