The new front fascia on the Tiguan adopts the Volkswagen DNA seen across the full range, and features automatic halogen headlights, front fogs with cornering lights, rain sensor, privacy glass and a chrome work package. Optional extras include bi-xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights, panorama sliding glass roof and a mirror package to fold away wing mirrors.
New high-tech driver assistance systems include touch-of-a-button parallel parking (drivers control braking and acceleration) called ‘ParkPilot’, which alerts the driver to distance from obstacles both front and rear; ‘Rest assist’ fatigue detection identifies waning driver concentration and alerts the driver; and ‘Lane assist’ lane departure warning system is also available.
The ‘Sport & Style’ package includes 4Motion all-wheel drive, traction control and an approach angle of 18° as standard with an off-road package available adding under body protection, an increased approach angle of up to 28° and off-road electronic programme.
The Tiguan has a towing ability of up to 2000kg trailer load and 1510 litres cargo.
Safety features in the Tiguan include ESP, ABS and traction control, as well as a comprehensive network of airbags and ISOFIX mounting points. Also new in the Tiguan is the XDS electronic differential lock which lets you grip the road when cornering fast giving “a more agile, precise and calm driving performance with better traction out of bends”.
Volkswagen says the Tiguan is more fuel efficient than ever before. The diesel, 6-speed tiptronic transmission engine delivers 103kW power and 320Nm torque from as little as 1750 rpm. Reaching a top speed of 182km/ h the 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive Tiguan has fuel consumption of 7.5 l/100km combined.
17” Boston alloy wheels give the Tiguan a sporty look.
Inside you’ll find a leather multi-function steering wheel, driver and passenger seat height adjustment and lumbar support, height adjustable front centre armrest, tray tables in the back of the front seats, plus raised ‘cinema-style’ rear seats.
The Tiguan multimedia package includes a RCD 510 radio CD system with a high resolution colour touch screen, 6-disc CD changer, MP3 and WMA file compatibility is standard. Provision for mobile phone with Bluetooth (hands free profile) including Multi-function display ‘Plus’ and phone book display is available.
The Tiguan TDI Tiptronic is now available in New Zealand with a starting RRP of $53,250.
