Chrysler and Nissan have shelved plans to develop cars jointly in America, US reports say.

The two carmakers had been working on a Chrysler-engined Nissan small car for America, and Nissan’s next-generation Titan full-sized US ute would have been based on the Dodge Ram (pictured).

But they will still collaborate to sell Nissan’s Versa as a Chrysler in South America, the reports say.

Meanwhile, reports from Japan suggest Nissan may be considering ending the alliance with Chrysler.

The troubled US company is also talking to Italian giant, Fiat, about collaborations that could include building some Fiat/Alfa Romeos in America and sourcing Fiat small car expertise for future Chrysler brand products.
