NZ debut for Volvo anti-collision technology

There are two engine choices – a 2.4 litre five-cylinder turbodiesel developing 136kW and 400Nm of torque or a 3.0-litre turbocharged six cylinder petrol motor with 210kW and 400Nm.

Both come with a six-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic manual shift.

City Safety makes its NZ debut on the XC60. Designed to mitigate or prevent low speed collisions, it measures the car’s speed and distance to the vehicle ahead, and calculates the level of braking force needed to avoid a collision.

When that force reaches a critical level, and the driver hasn’t reacted, City Safety function senses that a collision is imminent and applies the brakes.

The XC60 has all-wheel drive with Instant Traction which shifts power from the front to the rear wheels instantaneously, for instance when starting from standstill on slippery or loose surfaces. The system enhances stability and reduces understreer or oversteer.

Seats, door inserts, steering wheel and gear selector and leather-upholstered, and there are contrasting alloy inlays on the centre console.

The load area has a lockable load floor, covering two storage areas. The cargo cover extends over the entire load area. The rear door prevents the floor hatch from being opened when the car is closed and locked.

Standard gear includes ABS brakes with ready alert brakes (RAB) and EBD, electric drive away release parking brake, alarm and engine immobiliser, height adjustable headlights with washers, foglights, rear park-assist, and heated and retractable door mirrors.

The D5 model gets 17-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory, height and reach adjustable steering column, electric windows, cruise control, trip computer, climate-control air-conditioning with pollen filter and a six-speaker sound system with iPod and MP3 capability

The T6 adds Hill descent control, active bi-xenon headlights, rain sensing wipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, laminated glass all round, dual chrome exhausts, an interior air quality sensor and an eight-speaker sound system.
