With only one week left before the holiday, central district road policing manager, inspector David White says this weekend is a perfect opportunity for motorists to check cars, trailers, caravans, motorbikes, boats and campervans.

“Be sure that your vehicle is up to warrant of fitness standard, your tyres are safe and have sufficient tread, and that your registration is up to date. While you are doing this, it is also a good opportunity to check your boat and marine safety equipment too.

“Increased traffic volume on the roads over long weekends can be frustrating, but it will be even more so if you break down or are involved in a crash caused by a fault that could have been fixed before you left home. Unfortunately it is a common sight to see trailers with seized wheel bearings on the road side.”

As well as checking their vehicles, Police urge motorists to drive safely, wear their seatbelt, be considerate to other road users and be mindful of extra traffic on the roads. This will help ensure people reach their holiday destinations safely.
